Due to the games base setting it is not possible to raise the maximum player count above 6, any higher value for the game's "MaxPlayers=" variable will simply be ignored. This article will show you how to install a so-called Mutator which will bypass the default player limit and unlock a higher player count.

Installation

The first thing to do would be to download the required files to the local Pc. You may acquire the current version of the Mutator here or by visiting the official post. Unzip the downloaded archive so we can upload the files to the Gameserver via FTP later on. You should now end up with a folder which holds two files, KFMaxPlayers.u and KFMaxPlayers.ini.

  • The .ini file needs to be uploaded to this location: killingfloor2/KFGame/Config.
  • The .u file needs to be uploaded to this location: /killingfloor2/KFGame/BrewedPC.

The last step would be to tell the server that it should load the uploaded Mutator on start-up. In order to do so, we'd need to activate the Webadmin interface, you may find a tutorial about how to do so here:

You may now add new Mutators in the interface's "Server Actors" section. Please note that there should only be one entry per line, otherwise the configuration would break. Now add the entry KFMaxPlayers.KFMaxPlayers and save your altered settings. The Mutator will now be loaded on the next map change or restart of the server.

Configuration

To tell the Mutator the desired slot count which it should overwrite the server's settings to, we'd need to alter the previous uploaded file KFMaxPlayers.ini located in the killingfloor2/KFGame/Config directory. Simply set the value of the "ForcedMaxPlayers=" variable to the desired player count and save the file. Restart the server to activate the new setting.
